Look, we didn't start Mythrian Quinthal because we wanted to build just another architecture firm. Started back in 2014 with a simple idea - what if buildings could actually give back more than they take?
The name itself? Well, Mythrian comes from old tales about places that exist between imagination and reality. That's kinda where we live every day - pushing what's possible while keeping both feet on the ground. Quinthal's a nod to the five principles we won't compromise on: sustainability, functionality, beauty, community, and honesty.
We've grown from a two-person operation working outta a shared studio space to a team of 15 passionate folks. But here's the thing - we still approach every project like it's our first. That nervous excitement? Yeah, we've kept that.
Based in Vancouver, we've had the privilege of shaping spaces across BC and beyond. From family homes that adapt as kids grow up to commercial spaces that actually make people want to come to work - we've learned that good architecture isn't about showing off. It's about listening, really listening, and then translating what we hear into structures that work.
Every site's got a story - the way light hits it at different times, how the wind moves through, what the neighbors are like. We spend a lot of time just... observing. Sometimes the best design decisions come from noticing what's already there instead of trying to impose some grand vision.
Buildings should outlive trends, right? We design spaces that can evolve. That home office might become a nursery. That retail space could shift to accommodate new tech. Flexibility isn't boring - it's actually pretty liberating when you get it right.
This isn't an add-on or an upgrade package for us. Every material choice, every system, every detail gets the sustainability check. Not because it's trendy, but because we're designing buildings that'll be standing when our kids are showing them to their kids.
We're a mixed bag, honestly. Got folks who came straight from architecture school with fresh ideas, and veterans who've been doing this since before BIM was a thing. What brings us together? A shared obsession with making spaces that matter.
Architects, interior designers, sustainability consultants, 3D visualization specialists - we've assembled a crew where everyone brings something different to the table. Some of our best solutions come from these cross-discipline conversations over coffee.
No rockstars here. Sure, someone's name might be on a project lead, but we're all in it together. The intern who joined last month might catch something the principal architect missed - and that's celebrated, not resented.
Most of us live in Vancouver, and that matters. We're designing for our own neighborhoods, our own climate challenges. When we talk about sustainability, we're talking about our kids' futures too.
Technology's moving fast, materials are evolving, climate requirements keep tightening. We've got a culture where admitting you don't know something isn't weakness - it's the first step to figuring it out together.
Every morning we come in knowing that what we draw, model, and eventually build is gonna impact real lives. That's not lost on us. It's actually what gets us through the tough projects - the ones where nothing seems to work until suddenly it all clicks.
We believe architecture should be accessible. Not in some dumbed-down way, but in how we communicate, how we involve clients in the process, how we make sure the end result serves everyone who'll use the space. Too often our industry talks over people's heads. We try not to do that.
And yeah, we care deeply about the environmental piece. It's 2024 - we can't pretend buildings don't have massive carbon footprints. Every project's a chance to push a little further, try something new, prove that sustainable doesn't mean compromising on design quality.
